Tags in the Atlas are applied at the page level — each tag links to the pages that carry it. This guide explains what each tag means and where to go for the full definition. Most tags link directly to the relevant section of the Atlas Reference Layer.

Quadrant Tags

These tags identify which quadrant a figure or page addresses. Every overlay page carries all four.

#integrative — Unfamiliar + Holding. See Integrative

#compassionate — Familiar + Holding. See Compassionate

#self-restrained — Familiar + Threatened. See Self-Restrained

#antagonistic — Unfamiliar + Threatened. Used in the Atlas; respondent-facing name is The Unnameable. See The Unnameable

Overlay Tags

These tags identify which overlay a page belongs to or draws from.

#overlay — Applied to all overlay pages.

#film-overlay — Pages from the Film Overlay.

#literary-overlay — Pages from the Literary Overlay.

#middle-earth-overlay — Pages from Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

#jungian-overlay — Pages from the Astrological Overlay.

#mythology-overlay — Pages from the Folklore Overlay.

#reference — The Atlas Reference Layer.

Director / Author Tags

These tags identify which director or author a film or literary figure belongs to.

#herzog — Werner Herzog.

Structural Category Tags

These tags identify the structural role a figure plays within the Atlas. Each links to its definition in the Reference Layer.

#arc-figure — A figure whose primary function is movement across the map. See Arc Figure

#sustaining-figure — A figure who holds the arc figure in a condition where the arc can continue. See Sustaining Figure

#interpretive-figure — A figure who demonstrates the structural properties of their quadrant rather than simply occupying it. See Interpretive Figure

#witness-figure — A figure who maintains contact with an extreme position without being organized by it. See Witness Figure

#unprimed-witness — A witness figure without yet the framework to name what they are seeing. See Unprimed Witness

#split-figure — A figure who holds two structural positions simultaneously or in alternation. See Split Figure

#unmappable — A figure who has passed outside the coordinate system. See Unmappable Figure

#advisory-layer — The counsel structure around a Holding figure, through which Antagonistic influence can operate. See Advisory Layer

#border-crossing — A figure who moves across the quadrant boundary. See Border Crossing Figure

#teaching-pair — Two figures placed in deliberate proximity because the contrast between them makes the position more legible. See Teaching Pairs

Concept Tags

These tags mark pages that engage a specific theoretical or structural concept defined in the Reference Layer.

#suppression-eruption — The cycle by which suppressed content erupts in more extreme form. See Eruption Cycle

#recognition-instrument — TOI as a recognition tool rather than a prescriptive one. See Recognition Instrument

#interior-orientation — The upstream variable the instrument measures. See Interior Orientation

#american-self-limiting — The American Self-Limiting Cluster: Loman, Gatsby, Merrill. See American Self-Limiting Cluster
